woodcarving & sculpture

style

Excellent craftsmanship is a prerequisite for creating  good sculpture.  However, Gesina Liedmeier's competence doen't result in routine work. Her style is unique. While the carving tradition became stabilized in the 19th century, her sources of inspiration are from  earlier periods. Her style is rooted in the Late Gothic period and also includes other influences.
A beautiful example of a Late Gothic group can be seen on the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam website: the Annunciation by Tilman Riemenschneider. www.rijksmuseum.nl . The figures are characterized by various layers of expression, and a high degree of refinement.
